This symposium is expected to be the first in a series of similar events
organized every other year and alternating between Europe and South
America. Its mission is to foster transatlantic co-operation through joint
projects and the exchange of scholars, ideas and information between the
Computer Graphics communities in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. It is
expected that a workshop dedicated to issues concerning teaching and Computer
Graphics Curricula will be a part of the conference.

Theme
=====
Computer Graphics, through the design, manipulation and processing of extremely
varied types of pictographic data using computers, has provided a rich vision
of innovative applications. As a scientific endeavor, it has fostered such
diverse areas as multimedia, virtual environments, Tele-presence, user-friendly
and interactive interfaces, simulations and the visualization of complex
information. The new generation of Mobile Devices requires new interaction and
visualization paradigms in order to present rich information in attractive
formats. However, given the current bandwidth, device and technology
limitations, presenting complex information and interacting effectively with
small devices poses major challenges. Due to its experience with resource
limitations versus realism trade-offs, the Interactive Graphics Community is in
a privileged position to provide substantial contributions to the ever-changing
world of tele- communications.

Topics
======
This symposium replaces this year's annual events of the Spanish and Portuguese
Chapters of Eurographics. We invite researchers, students, academicians and
practicians to contribute Papers from all areas related to computer graphics,
multimedia and hardware. In particular we are looking to novel applications,
algorithms and the human aspects of interaction with graphics, as well as
artistic viewpoints and mobile computing. In support of the overall conference
theme, three sub-themes have been selected as being of particular
interest. Authors are invited to submit contributions addressing one or more of
the following (non-exhaustive) list of major areas/topics:

- Mobile Computing and Information Visualization
- Augmented Reality
- Computer Games
- Multi-modal Interfaces
- Virtual Environments
- Geometric Modeling
- Computer Graphics and Networks
- Rendering
- Visualization

About the Venue
===============
Guimaraes, located in the Minho region, north of Portugal, referred as the
"birthplace of the Portuguese nationality", is an obligatory reference for all
visitors. Its historic, artistic and monumental treasures (its downtown has
been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage), creates an unique opportunity for
an unforgettable visit.

Paper Submission
================
Submissions are invited as either a full paper of 6 to 10 pages (A4 paper) for
oral presentation or as a short paper of 2 to 4 pages (A4 paper) for poster
presentation. The papers must be written in English, although presentations
can be delivered in Portuguese, Spanish or English. The program committee,
composed of internationally renowned experts, will review the submissions.

A revised selection of the best papers will be published in a special issue of
the Computers and Graphics Journal. The conference proceedings will be
published on-line, as well as book and CD-ROM formats.

Please submit your paper electronically as a MIME-compliant attachment
to an email message sent to mailto:siacg-papers at ccg.pt
Please contact the organizers if your submission exceeds 10Mb in size.

Each submission should include a cover page listing the following information:
Name, affiliation, address and e-mail address of each author; Name of the
presenting author; Name of the contact author and up to five keywords.

The submitted paper should be formatted according to the rules/guide- lines
posted at http://virtual.inesc.pt/art/template.pdf Papers must be submitted
electronically in either PDF or Postscript formats (only electronic submissions
will be acceptable). Please contact the conference secretariat below if you
experience problems with electronic submission.

N.B. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to
register and to present the communication at the conference if it is accepted.
